The Humble "I"

Knowing, Doing, Becoming

Muslims & Modernity Series

This is a collection of thoughts and meditations about Muslims and their engagement with modernity. It mixes reflections on politics, spirituality, marriage, social activism, science and philosophy; along with other musings on Muslims and the challenges of modernity. I’ve called them: ‘Footprints on the Sands of Time’. The title is culled from a line of poetry written by the American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, called A Psalm of Life:

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time.

Each “Footprint” contains twenty-one brief thoughts, musings and meditations on the deeper meaning of modernity and the Muslim encounter with it.
