New PDF: Taqlid and Madhhabs: the Good, the Bad & the Ugly

This booklet explores the place of taqlid and the madhhabs within mainstream Islam, and how attitudes towards both have been considerably warped and distorted in recent decades. Drawing upon the classical scholarly tradition, it seeks to correct common misconceptions, myths, half-truths and clear falsehoods in this matter.

It will further try and recover the proper balance between following qualified scholarship and respecting legitimate ijtihad, and show what is the actual classical ruling on a layperson following a madhhab or fiqh-school. It also explains how the classical madhhab tradition remains a source of scholarly continuity, stability and unity for the ummah.

The booklet is a must read for those unclear about this crucial matter; those who have only heard isolated or cherry-picked quotes about the issue; and those who have been ensnared by a modernist reinterpretation of the issue under the guise of following the way of the salaf.
